This Privacy Policy explains what information the Naffi mobile app ("Naffi", "the app", "we", "us") uses, how it is used, and the choices you have. Naffi is a navigation and heads-up-display app for Android.
In short: Naffi has no user accounts and runs no server that stores your personal data. Your location and profile stay on your device. Location is only sent to third-party map, routing and search services when you use online eatures, so those features can work. Naffi contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking.
1. Naffi, who?
Naffi is developed,"vibe code" by John von Wells, based in the Netherlands. For any privacy question, contact: privacy@naffi.nl.
2. Information the app uses
- Location - precise and/or approximate device location, used only while the app is open (foreground), to show your position on the map, provide navigation, calculate your speed, and find nearby places. Naffi does not use background location.
- Profile name - an optional name you can enter for your driver profile. It is stored on your device and shown in the app. You can leave the default.
- On-device app data - your discovered places, the roads you have driven ("map" / fog-of-war), and your settings and HUD layout. This is stored locally on your device
3. How your location is used and shared
Offline mode. When you use Naffi with a downloaded offline data pack, the map, routing, search and speed limits run entirely on your device, and your location does not leave the device.
Online / low-data mode. To provide live map tiles, routing, address search and place information, the app sends the necessary requests - which can include your location or search text together with your device's IP address - to the following independent third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Map tiles (data pack host): GitHub
- Routing: OSRM (project-osrm.org)
- Address & place search: Photon by Komoot
- Points of interest & speed limits: OpenStreetMap (Overpass API)
- Device location is provided by Google Play services
We do not control these services and do not receive a copy of the data you send to them. Map and place data shown in the app is derived from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the ODbL.
4. What we collect on a server
Nothing. Naffi has no account system and no backend that collects or stores your personal data. The offline data pack you can download is a set of static, public files.
5. Advertising and analytics
Naffi contains no advertising and no third-party analytics, tracking or profiling SDKs. If this ever changes, we will update this policy first, and any advertising would be optional (opt-in).
6. Crash and performance diagnostics
Naffi is distributed through Google Play. Google provides us with standard, aggregated crash and performance reports (Android vitals). This is handled by Google under its own policies; it does not
identify you to us.
7. Your choices and control
- Clear your discovered places and driving history any time in Settings → System.
- Revoke the location permission any time in your Android system settings (online features that need location will then ask again or be unavailable).
- Uninstalling Naffi removes all of its local data, including any downloaded data pack.
8. Data retention
On-device data stays on your device until you clear it in the app or uninstall. We hold no server-side data to retain.
9. Children
Naffi is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Security
Your data stays on your device, and network requests to the services above use encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
11. Your rights (AVG / GDPR)
Naffi is based in the Netherlands, so the Algemene Verordening Gegevensbescherming (AVG - the Dutch implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation) applies. You have the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Because Naffi holds no personal data on a server, you exercise most of these directly: your data stays on your device, and you can view, change, clear or delete it in the app (Settings → System) or by uninstalling. For data you have sent to the third-party services listed in section 3, please contact those services. You can reach us any time at privacy@naffi.nl.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
12. International transfers
The third-party services in section 3 may process your requests on servers located outside your country, under their own safeguards and policies.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will change, and we will note any material changes here or in the app.
